Marketing ethics and our career

Before taking HADM 2430, I thought marketing was all about convincing people to buy things they don't necessarily need.

What has come clear to me now is that deceiving consumers is not only ethically wrong, but does not comply with the purpose of marketing.

I think this raises an interesting observation about ourselves as career-driven students.

I always thought I could lie my way into jobs with strict requirements because I have seen other people become successful in doing so.

But this article made me change my mind:
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/article/20140917045901-24454816-the-5-biggest-mistakes-i-see-on-resumes-and-how-to-correct-them?trk=tod-home-art-list-large_0

Fifth point the author makes is that any lying will inevitably lead to future destruction of career.

Which I thought was interesting because it was synonymous with our lecture on dishonesty leading to short-term customer relations.

I have never viewed interviewing as marketing, but it is interesting to see the correlation between marketing ethics and our daily actions/decisions.

On the up side, I believe positive marketing concepts we learn in class can help us promote ourselves in our search for perfect career without having to lie about ourselves.

Business is all about relationship, and we can't afford to lose one to gain one.
And I think we should adopt the same state of mind interacting with the consumers.
